The goal of the Partnership is to reduce global methane emissions in order to enhance economic growth, strengthen energy security, improve air quality, improve industrial safety, and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

Mongolia, a Methane to Markets Partner since 2008, is a member of the Agriculture, Coal Mine, and Landfill Subcommittees. Mongolia is pursuing methane mitigation activities in the agriculture and coal mines sectors. Mongolia has a National Action Program on Climate Change, which includes using cost-effective methane recovery technologies as a clean energy source as one method of addressing climate change.
