Methane to Markets Partnership Expands to 25 Country Partners with the Addition of Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand

27 March 2008

The Methane to Markets Partnership welcomed four new Partner countries this week: Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand. The addition of these countries increases the international initiative to 25 Methane to Markets Partners, a noteworthy milestone for the Partnership. Founded in 2004 with 14 initial Partner countries, Methane to Markets continues to experience significant growth since its inception 4 years ago.

Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand join 21 other countries and an expanding Project Network of more than 700 public and private sector organizations that are working to capture and use methane as a cost-effective, clean-energy source while reducing emissions of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. The inclusion of these countries in the Partnership will provide further expertise, insights, and opportunities to advance project development in methane capture and use.

The Partnership currently focuses on four sources of methane emissions: Agriculture (animal waste management), coal mines, landfills, and oil and gas systems.
